Assault on Precinct Pluto?, Eight Days Down

Apparently this is what happens when you sock Pluto in the balls or yanked his ear or did something to him to provoke him to chase him like a little kid would provoke someone (watch below).

Afterwards the mother was charge with assault on Pluto (through her child I suppose and pushing him over) and Pluto was fired for being unprofessional about the whole situation (I mean, he chased that kid!). I love how at the end the ladies are following Pluto and taking pictures of him as though it were some good show to place on YouTube (haha, I would do the same).

We took ID pictures today. My final ID picture for Hamilton High School (tear). I have reviewed them on and I have to say that 10th grade wins out for me followed very closely by 11th grade. 9th grade I look goofy (to me) and 12th grade is alright but I just hate what they did with the design of the card this year and I regret not wearing my Star Wars jacket. My California I.D. is pretty solid, I think (see below, click to enlarge).

I found one of the most stupidiest disclaimers ever on this site that gives away free downloads to Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts music:

Yeah right, I'm totally giving the money back in 24 hours.

Track 2: Real (featuring Sarah Green)

[Lupe Fiasco]

Uhh, Food & Liquor
Yeah, my man said he wanted somethin real..
real.. real.. real.. real
Somethin he could recognize, somethin he could feel..
feel.. feel.. feel.. feel
Baby girl said she was in the mood for somethin real..
real.. real.. real.. real
Somethin that could make her move
Somethin she could feel.. feel.. feel.. feel

Lusssst... sometimes can override trusssst
She said that's why she gave it up
My man said blood spilled out of everything he tou-chhhhed
He crushed everything he crushed
Ruined everything he loved, he just wanted to rushhhhh
Blamed it on the times bein rough
Doin dirt, with the devil, chasin after the dusssst
Make a fussss, if it's them, but we hushhh, if it's us

That's why, my momma said she wanted somethin REAL..
real.. real.. real.. real
Somethin she could be proud of, somethin she could FEEL..
feel.. feel.. feel.. feel
She said they so used to not havin nuttin real..
real.. real.. real.. real
That they don't know how to act
They don't know how to feel.. feel.. feel.. feel

Lifffffe... ain't meant to come around twiiiice
Yeah, that's why I gotta get it right
They said I got it honest now I gotta give it LIFE
But sleep on it, that's why God give you night
I mean, I had a dream that, God gave me FLIGHT
Too fly for my own good so, God gave me plight
If I wake up in the mornin now I gotta give 'em SIGHT
Make 'em see, break 'em free, ain't a G, sho' you right

The game is not to give 'em nuttin REAL..
real.. real.. real.. real
Nothin they could use, nuttin that they could FEEL..
feel.. feel.. feel.. feel
Give 'em a bunch of lies and teach 'em that it's REAL..
real.. real.. real.. real
So that's all that they a-know
That's all that they a-feel.. feel.. feel.. feel

Struggle... yeah yeah, another sign that God love you
Cause on the low, bein po', make you humble
Keep they names in my rhymes to try and keep them out of trouble
Cause bein po', also teach you how to hustle
All they want is some shoes or some rims for they bubble
Now that I got my own, I can hit them with a couple
Couple, my homies so they ain't got no reason to cuff you
That's my plan, if I can, on the man, up above you

That's why, I gotta give 'em somethin REAL..
real.. real.. real.. real
Somethin they could recognize, somethin they could FEEL..
feel.. feel.. feel.. feel
To my homies on the block I gotta give 'em somethin real..
real.. real.. real.. real
Somethin that'll make 'em stop
Somethin they can feel.. feel.. feel.. feel

Yo! For real, really real, yeah!
Know what it is, woo!
Baby girl said she was in the mood for somethin REAL..
real.. real.. real.. real
Let's go!

[Sarah Green - to fade]
So real.. so real..

Alright so this is my second analysis in Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor album and I would like to start on focusing on the chorus on this one, keeping in mind where we just came from with his intro. I feel a lot of time in songs choruses are always lost in the melody and in its repetitiveness but really, for me, its, in most cases, the gist of the song. Now remember we just came from Lupe describing to us that he is the revolution, the solution, the fiasco turned to good . . . but can we, as the listener, trust what he is saying? I think Real is his way of saying that he can be trusted and the tracks that would proceed this song will be authentic and real. Look back to one of his lines in Intro that goes:

"I give you my.. I give you my heart
My soul, my mind my thoughts, my feelings
My experience, nothing more, and nothing less"

Already he's giving himself up to us and at this point we should be willing to hear what he says with open minds and know that this his him, this is Lupe Fiasco, with no strings attached. Real, to me, is sort of the second part of his intro, the extension of his intro. Look to the chorus, he sets up the image of guy and a girl (and others) asking for something real much like in the intro which describes "us" as waiting for the reinstallment of the revolution. Also it's a nice touch when he says "something that could make her move, something she could feel", inferring that his music will make her dance and think. His Hip Hop will attract her and then get her to think. Since this is in the chorus though, many people would miss this small little implication.

On to the first verse. I think this holds true to the Food & Liquor (Good & Bad) theme. This verse focuses on the Liquor. There is the image of the man spilling blood with everything he touches, chasing dust (drugs), blaming it on the times being rough, the women giving up. Most powerful line of all for me in this verse is "Make a fuss, if it's them, but we hush, if it's us" suggesting that we don't place the blame on "we" and place the blame on "them." I think this could be compared to the Martin Luther King episode of the Boondocks in which King states that Niggas love to complain, Niggas love to talk but hate to explain. The liquor, the bad, is the blame we are setting on others and how we just give up and complain, removing the problem away from us instead of closer to us so that we can heal, so that we can feel.

On to the second verse. Now we have the theme of the good and the food and how he is that good. We don't have time to dwell on the fake. He's real. He's trying to convince us that he's authentic. We've been feed a lot of counterfeit stuff and we're pretty untrusting. In the last chorus he states that his mother didn't even know how to act or feel anymore. And with Lupe saying life don't come around twice he's trying to convince us that he doesn't have time for the B.S. and is here for the real, "they say [he] got it honest, so [he's] got to give it life." Now only is he himself real, the intangible idea of him is real but he's saying that intangible idea of him can be made into life, into something tangible, something real. There are some more stuff in this verse to talk about but I'm trying to keep this simple (and I don't have the time right now lol).

On to the third verse. Now I think this has the duality of the good and bad, sort of like ying and yang. Before in the intro we hear that he, Lupe, is to turn the Fiasco to good. Here, in this verse I believe he's suggesting how good can come out of bad especially through the line "cause on the low, being poor make you humble". Being poor and being in poverty, for most people, really isn't a good situation to be in and could seem really bad but out of that could come good because being poor really does make you humble. In his next line he sort of gives out a shout out to his listeners that through his words, through these rhymes, he's going to try "and keep [us] out of trouble." In English class we read this poem called Terence which was about a poet who wrote sad poems for sad times but his drunk friend wants him to play happy songs in the dark times to be happy again but the poet makes an argument about having sad poems for sad times because it makes one more strong and helps them to get over their sadness because they can relate and know they aren't in it alone. My teacher made another really good argument that when we are sad we look for refuge in sad songs, not happy ones. What Lupe is saying here, to me, is that he would keep "our" names in his rhymes so that we can feel that struggle and be able to fight through. Thus, him being real, because he knows that struggle because its his struggle and that's how he knows it "ours" as well.

10/10

I really wanted to write a lot more on this song but I really don't have the time and all. There were some ideas I sort of left hanging but they will come up again in other songs (his whole album is connected really, save for a few).

Peace.
