No Country for Old Men edited completely on ...

Final Cut Pro and the making of 'No Country for Old Men'
by Jim Dalrymple

There has been a lot of talk in the last couple of years about Apple’s hardware triumphs, like the Intel Mac, the iPod and the iPhone. But there is more to Apple than just hardware — one of the unsung heros for Apple is its professional line of applications like Final Cut Pro.

The Coen brothers proved during the making of No Country for Old Men just how influential a Mac and the right software can be during the editing process. The movie won four Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In fact, it is the first movie edited with a completely digital workflow on Mac to win the Oscar.

Whoopi vs SilentBat II in 5 Seconds

Well I just finish up my portion of Whoopi vs. SilentBat II's full rough edit and this is all of it in 5 seconds. ENJOY!:
Now to do some homework.

________

Stage6 closing down due to lack in funds (Read Here)
Now where to put Whoopi vs. SilentBat II in High-Def ....

_______

My little adventure (IM conversation-style):

let me get you a aprelude
tomorrow is the first day of shooting for my first music video
and in the lyrics the girl is like "i want to be an oncologist, and diagnose tumors"
and the guy in one of his lines is like "you might see me with the cooler, that's cause i don't eat pork. you can never be sure of"
so i wanted running gag
where in each scene teh girl would have her oncology book
and the boy would have his cooler
alright so i had to get the book today
and ....
you with me?
so for the shoot tomorrow
ya
i had to get a book on oncology
cause you know in "and he gets the girl" she's like "i want to be an oncologist and diagnose tumors"
so i wanted to have a running gag
with the nerd and the cheerleader
that somewhere in the scene
they always had their cooler or oncology book
so
i went to library near my house
but of course they dont have it
then
he's like "you have to go to central library"
and i tell my gma "i have to go to central library downtown"
and she's like "that kinda far and i won't be able to make my [jehovah witness] meeting"
so she's like "i'll drop you off and you can take the bus back in scary-old downtown
so while we were driving down
there
i got really squared
idk
i don't like downtown at all
AT ALL!
no so much teh peeps on teh ground
but just the risk of a terrorist attack and i kept thing "cloverfield ..."
but anyway
i get out the car and go inside the the place is HUGE!
there was literally
a sublevel underground
for mor space
so i go around about to get lost and i ask this lady and i'm like "this place scares me ... it's huge, where do i go to go "so-and-so" book
and she smiles and gives me a map
and i'm like you have a MAP!
and she smiles again and sends me on my way
so i go to the science second two levels below ground!
and i get the book
then i get ready to go to
the bus
but i'm stopped by this bum
and he's like "i need a dollar" basically
he was saying a lot of toehr stuff like
"cops" "probation" "40 hours of community services"
you know, normal bum stuff
and he's like "jsut a dollar man, just a dollar"
and i'm like "let me do you one better. here's five dollars" (i was feeling pretty good)
and he's like "you're a good man! do you believe in jesus!?"
and i'm like no
and he's llike "i can see in your eyes your a good man"
and i'm like "gotta go there's my bus" cause my bus really was there
and he's like "I APPRECIATE IT!"
and i'm like "ENJOY IT!"
sweet guy
anyway
i got on the bus and this other bum starts talking to me
cause he saw i had the book and was like "are you studying medicine?"
and i'm like "no, this is just a prop for a film i'm doing."
and he's like "i have a nephew who's into that film stuff."
and we started talking about film
fun
then he gets off the bus
and this lady sits next to me
and i start falling asleep and wake up with a jerk of the bus and she's there just kind-heartedly smiling at me
and i'm like "sorry"
and she's like "where's your stop?"
and i'm like "st andrews"
and she's like "i'll help you get there"
and i'm like "thanks"
and she tapped me when we got c lose
then i got home
fin

Lightsabers and Screening Listings

It's a very Whoopi vs. SilentBat day. We are trying to finish up a few effects so we can get a full rough edit together to see what Whoopi vs SilentBat II looks all the way through. I did some sound effects editing, video editing, rotoscoping, talk to a few folks, made a few letters, talk to Whoopi about promotional stuff, tweaking stuff and generally Whoopi vs SilentBat junk all around. But also today was a day to finish up some business-like stuff as well.

Today I started on the listing for our Santa Monica Public library screening with "serial numbers" and all. Officially, their are only three people attending, the star of the film. Haha! But soon enough once we get a lock down on the Santa Monica Public Library as our official location for the screening we'll be handing out tickets. People who were in the film get first dibs and then we start handing out to our friends. The tickets are already done we just have to get the confirmation and wait for the film to be done. Expect the first teaser poster to come soon. If you go to Hamilton expect to see it up around in the halls come next week or the week following.

David Yates to direct Death Hallows!?

"Lois Lowry, a children's book writer, has updated her online blog with information about The Giver movie. She had hoped Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince director David Yates would be able to direct The Giver. However:

...he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years.

While this is not confirmed by Warner Brothers yet, it appears to be a pretty reliable source."

- MuggleNet.com

I would LOVE if David Yates took on Deathly Hallows. He is my favorite direcor next to Alfonzo Cauron and I really like what he did with Order of the Phoenix, especially the last thirty minutes. Everything about the last thirty minutes was done right and I was totally enthralled in the film. The first twenty minutes of the film was nice too, from the opening titles to the Ministry. You really did feel Harry was feeling alone and cut off.

What's this? A Whoopi vs SilentBat II Update?

So today I finished the first shot of the final duel (see left)! Also we finished all filming except one ten second scene which we should be completed with next week. Scores should be coming in soon from both of our composers and since we have all filming done we should be going onto ADR soon. And after I send this whole scene away to Whoopi he'll get to work on the secret effect! And when all effects are done we'll be ready to export it watch it multiple times to make sure it's perfect, show it to a select few just in case we miss something and we'll be putting out a trailer!

Peace.

RedRobin is all hooked up!

Got my hands on a USB Hub and I was able to hook up my iPod which I rightly named "RedRobin"
With my new iPod they gave me three free things! A short animated film based on "The Incredibles", a TV Show (which I did not download even though they offered it for free) and a music video by Maroon 5 (which I enjoyed very much).

Side-Note: I drove to WalMart today from my house! (Staying away from the major streets of course)

iChat Tabs without Leopard!

I don't need Leopard for iChat tabs! Woot!

________

Today I finally got my Product(RED) iPod Nano!

And I don't be getting music on my iPod until I get a USB Hub because I only have two USB 2.0 ports in the back of my Mac PowerPC G4 and they are both in use (one of them being my external harddrive which has all my music stored in it) and the other being my keyboard. My keyboard has USB ports on them (one is being used for my mouse) but it's only USB 1.1 and my iPod needs USB 2.0.

Making Business Card

NEW YORK (AP) - The "Star Wars" universe, already substantially rendered by computer generated imagery, is giving in all the way to animation. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," an animated film, will open in theaters Aug. 15 and be followed by a TV series of the same name, to air on the Cartoon Network and TNT this fall. "I felt there were a lot more `Star Wars' stories left to tell," said "Star Wars" creator George Lucas in a statement. "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the animation forward."

(Here's another article)
(And another!)
(OMG! Another one!)

(And a video!)

This is great great great and fantastic news! This makes me extremely happy and to know that the film is due out so soon is so great. You know how close August is? That's right around the corner if you think about it! And you know what's even more exciting? "A new character named Ahsoka, Anakin's padawan, will be the first female Jedi to be a character of focus." Anakin had a padawan! I wonder if she'll eventually die or turn to the dark-side. It will be very interesting to see how Anakin will act as a Master. He was never mature enough to even be placed as a Jedi Knight! But this should be great!

So now I wonder if the trailer/sneak peek that starwars.com put down last summer was actually a sneak peek for the film. I wondered this because the sneak peek was all in 2.34:1 aspect ratio (anamorphic widescreen or "film widescreen"). I thought this could have been just for dramatic effect but now I think I understand that this was a sneak peek for the actual film which makes me all the more happy! And to think some of us Star Wars would have died with the final live-action film!

My only issue. The only issue I have is with the film and television series to come right after is that it will be on Cartoon Network and TNT. And I don't have cable. But who knows, I'll be off to college and may have access to cable and plus modern TV shows are now placing their episodes on their sites on the internet the day after they air. So I may just do that. Should be interesting. It seems Lucasfilm has taken on another sub-company. They've had LucasArts before but now it seems they have Lucasfilm Animation which I assume was created for "The Clone Wars" and we'll go on to do animation for other third-party films.

In any case this is fantastic news!

So today when I went to get my CalGrant sign up sheet I was stop by one of the counselor's from my UCLA VIP Scholars program named Greg and he asked me what I was doing. I told him about the CalGrant and there was this other lady there sitting next to him and she said she also went to UCLA. Greg went on to mention how I did video productions and that I should give her my business card and I was like "I don't have a business card." Then he tells me just make one and give it to my college counselor so she could give it to him when he came back to Hamilton. So I did just that (see below) and I would like to see what you all think.

Revision: I put a drop shadow on the MITA Monkey and text and I made the monkey bigger. I also took out the Final Cut Pro and Adobe logos out because they were distracting and made the card too busy.

No More Heroes Until Fall

No More Heroes Until Fall
Even with strike over, Heroes seems grounded until next season.
by IGN Staff

February 11, 2008 - While the strike looks just about over, Heroes fans shouldn't expect new episodes in the immediate future. The news filtering out seems to confirm that the NBC superhero hit won't be back until this fall, despite writers almost certainly going back to work this week.

The reason for the delay seems centered around issues unique to Heroes from both a production and structural standpoint. Heroes creator Tim Kring told ew.com last week that he felt that they could probably only finish three more episodes of the series if they attempted to film more to air by the end of this TV season in May.

I got in a fight today. Didn't end too well for the other guy. Whoopi's got a black eye.

Today was the last day of shooting Whoopi vs. SilentBat II!

I really do enjoy the worm's eye angle.

Shooting on the first floor of my school is amazingly annoying but we usually have our best stuff done down there.

I felt like one of those big movies studios or ICF last week shooting at school and people thinking it's awesome and watching. It really reminded me of this time when they were filming by my house and everyone in the neighborhood was watching. People were watching our (Whoopi and I's) performance and I think they enjoyed it. Just wait until they see it on the small screen!

Ah man I love the extras (background performers) today. We got a great batch of them this time around. I really liked "The Massacre" extras to but last time we filmed they would not cooperate as well. I would like to give a big shout out to A.J. Bleyer! He was an amazing extra. And I mean AMAZING! And Janitor Jane! Shout out to her too! Great job Yhanni! Great job Donovan with the camera! She even got a sweet cameo! Great work Ure! Great dueling Thaddeus, I'll see you on set for "Antoine Bandele's And He Gets The Girl" (which will be shout this time in a fortnight).

Hey you gotta do what you gotta do to get your location! Haha!

Great day ... great day.

Peace.

I Was A Teenage Zombie

Coming Spring 2008

Mae Catt (pictured below), star of "Happiness for Only 19.99", and director of "Push", will soon be coming out with her newest film "I was A Teenaged Zombie." Here is a short synopsis:

"The Zombie Apocalypse has come and gone. Four teenaged survivors find their only refugee reluctantly with each other. Tensions rise when reality sets in and they try to cope with guilt, distrust, and each other. Living in the house of a dead friend with the Zombies always there they wonder if there’s anything left to do in this life."

There is going to be a trailer due out soon, looking forward to that. I'll post that up too when it's up. I enjoy seeing young filmmakers doing there thing like this, especially female filmmakers. There is a huge lack of female filmmakers in the industry and I really enjoyed stuff like "Love & Basketball" from Gina Prince-Bythewood or "Across the Universe" from Julie Taymor.
