Lupe Fiasco's third video "Hip Hop Saved My Life" is due out tomorrow on iTunes according to wikipedia. "Like "Dumb It Down", a low budget video directed by Dr. Teeth was filmed for it. The video includes Nikki Jean and Bun B with Lupe Fiasco."
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm glad there is a new video out due for Lupe but I'm not sure about the song itself as a music video. I can easily see it being a music video because it does tell a distinct story but I think there were other songs that could have been taken into account. I would really like to see "Little Weapon" or "The Die" or "Put You On Game" or "Paris, Tokyo" as music videos. All would probably have to be high-budget but I think they were make for more interesting music videos. I can already see what "Hip Hop Saved My Life" would be like in my head. But if he did something like "Little Weapon" that would be extremely, I think, worthwhile and deep. Just think about the imagery of that song, having little children shooting up helpless villagers and turning the tables with showing a regular American kid playing Gears of War or something.
What I am excited for is that it will be directed by the same guy who did "Dumb it Down" which I enjoy and it will feature Nikki Jean whom I also like. In any case, I guess we'll all see how it turns out tomorrow. (Pictures Below)
